WebP2P SF Meetup?

WebP2P SF Meetup?

From:
Rich Jones
Date:

Hey all!

Nice to see that the list is seeing a bit more activity and that people's
projects are starting to come along! 2014 is going to be an amazing year
for WebP2P.

Quick poll.. how many people on the list are in the SF bay area? And, if
you are, would you be interested in having an IRL meetup to show and tell
and drink about our projects?

When next I'll be in the area, yes.

Sorry, Spain here. In the best of cases, I would get my boss send me to
DevCon5 on June to New York, but at this moment it's only just a nice dream
:-)

Hi,

SF is quite far from here too, but I noticed there is some French ppl
here, so if some of you want to meet in Paris, we can also organize
something !

Planning to be in SF around May or June. Will let you know! Perhaps it will
be good to open a meetup page?

May sounds like it could be a good time. I could reach out to Mozilla, they
have a nice space and might be interested in this kind of thing.

Feross - are you out there? I know you're in the Bay and I think a
WebTorrent talk would be the bomb..

Yep, I'm here ;) I live in the bay area. I'd love to talk about WebTorrent
in more detail and share the plans (here's a basic
explanation<https://github.com/feross/webtorrent/issues/39> if
you're interested). The main thing I'd like is for people to point out
potential difficulties so we can build solutions and make it work :)

Would love to learn more about what others are doing too.

Any news? I would be happy to meet at the end of the month.
Also, is there a place already?
I might be able to organize a free venue for us :)

http://www.peersm.com claims to have streaming torrent support (I'm
not clear on this at all though). They are web based and seem to have
goals to become as distributed as possible. They layer it on Tor.
This is not optional in that design. It is certainly worth seeing
what they did. The seem to be responsive. I had to use the GitHub
issues to contact them though.

I'm very interested in your work, please keep us informed.

Peersm + Streaming + Bittorrent - [Re: [webp2p] WebP2P SF Meetup?}

From:
Aymeric Vitte
Date:
2014-05-07 @ 13:53
Hi,

Thanks, yes it's not difficult to reach us, changing the subject of the
thread not to interfer.

And yes Peersm does now support bittorrent streaming and downloading (as
well as Peersm and Web file streaming and downloading)

You can try the first starter links http://www.peersm.com/?links-en and
watch the new demo video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVaE8UZzDlA , no
technical blabla for once, it just shows what it does and how to send
the video to your TV.

This is working well (using a modified version of torrent-stream
implemented inside the Peersm clients) but volunteers to seed the demo
links are welcome:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:49C338AA58DEE04262DEC7AE42D6FD48962C16A5(creative
common movie) and
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:AD51323FAC3285A981F3CDA21A7FAA061E5765C4 (small json
movie descriptor file)

As explained here https://github.com/mafintosh/torrent-stream/issues/30
it seems like the bittorrent clients have some hard time understanding
they should better use our servers rather than our adsl connections.

The files must comply with adaptive streaming format, that's why they
are specific, we are working now on adapting the format directly inside
the browsers so we can stream usual files.

Note: Peersm is using the Tor network for now but this will disappear
with the WebRTC implementation (except maybe for direct web fetching but
it can be done via the Peersm clients too), only the Tor protocol will
be used.

Regards,

Aymeric

Hadar,

If you mean me, “Rich”, unfortunately no. I have neither the time nor the
connections to organize a meetup, a free location, and whatever else is
required. Down below a few inches you said you might be able to do this. I
would definitely make the time to attend, if my schedule was free.

Okay! Seems like there are enough people interested in actually doing
this.. let's make it happen!

@Hadar - where do you have in mind? I guess we'll need space for ~10
people, a projector, and some kind of surface where we can put booze and
snacks. Hit me up off-list if you want to talk logistics. When we figure
out a date/place, I'll throw it up on the website and link out to HN and
all that to see if anybody else wants to come.
