We'll be kicking off the new year in style with a talk from Bruce Lawson,
entitled "Open Standards: democratising and future-proofing the Web"

Bruce writes:-

Let's call the talk "Open Standards: democratising and future-proofing
the Web". A look at the role open standards play in making the web
work across browsers, platforms, devices, in the developing world and
for people with disabilities, including some demos of HTML5 and CSS 3.

The meeting is at the usual time and usual place. For those who don't know what
the usuals are,

Birmingham LUG Meetings are normally held on the third Thursday of
the month at
7.30pm, in room UG40 in the School of computer science at the University of
Birmingham. This does sometimes vary though, so please check the
meetings list
and notes before turning up. Directions to find us are located here [1].
Please note that the main door to computer science is usually
locked between at
5 and 6pm, HOWEVER, UG40 is the glass fronted room to the rear
right, wave at us
and somebody will come and let you in ! We have a wireless doorbell, which
should help in attracting attention. Look for the penguin and press
the button.
